How is a Standard Change Pre-Approved

By ITILĀ® from Experience©

The Standard Change can be approved by the normal Change Management process. However, instead of submitting a Request For Change (RFC), the Standard Change or a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is sent for authorization.

The same criterion used to authorize a normal change can be used by the Change Manager to approve the SOP. Of course, advice from the Change Advisory Board (CAB) can be asked if required.

As the organization matures the quality of standard changes can be increased by asking that a report listing all incidents caused by this change in the last 12 months also be submitted with the SOP for authorization. The Change Manager may also ask that the SOP be reviewed by Release Management before it is authorized.
